NEWSLETTER SPRING 2009.
The 6 weeks trip in 2008 to Yucatan (Mexico) are still in our memories in regards of the clear waters, the Yucatan current, the scenic coast, the natural life, good food, friendly people and last but not least, THE MAYAN CULTURE. (See Trip Log with pictures on our website).
SPRING BIRD remained at home during the Hurricane Season 2008 until December. Then we had some occasional trips into the Gulf of Mexico.
For 2009, we have some new plans that could be of interest to some of the seasoned cruisers as well the more social kind of sailor. Until end of May, we still stay in Florida and do some shorter trips to the Florida Keys, Marquesas and the Dry Tortugas. Again the Hurricane Season from June to November will keep us close to home and limited to weather permitting. But for the latter part of 2009, we are working on an extended and exciting schedule of longer duration that could extend to 3 months and bring us well into 2010.
CAPE CORAL - TRINIDAD. Dec. 2009 - March 2010
We know, not everybody has the time for the whole stretch, but we will divide the trip in shorter segments so anybody can meet us at a major destination where connections to airports are available. It will be a matter of timing and planning to have some safety days built into the schedule. Here is the schedule in a short version.
-Cape Coral Dry Tortugas Key West.
-Key West Florida Keys Miami
-Miami Grand Bahama Abacos, Marsh Harbor
-Marsh Harbor Exumas, Georgetown
-Georgetown Georgetown (Sailing the Exumas)
-Georgetown Turks and Caicos
-Turks and Caicos Dominican Republic
-Dominican Republic Puerto Rico
-Puerto Rico British Virgin Islands
-British Virgin Islands St. Martin
-St. Martin Antigua
-Antigua Guadeloupe
-Guadeloupe Martinique
-Martinique St. Lucia
-St. Lucia Grenada
-Grenada - Trinidad
On the timing, we have no dates set yet and it will also depend on the parties interested to join us for a week or two or more. At this point in time, we would like to hear from you in what segment you would be interested in. Please let us know now. (No commitment yet). Christmas and New Year we would like to spend in the Exumas as we had this experience in 2007 and it was great. And in Trinidad we plan to be there for the Carnival around end of February beginning of March.
All segments are exciting and have some variety and special features to offer. Some stretches will require some night sailing, an experience for those who never sailed at night and see all the stars over open water.
